Key takeaways
- Start from your business goal, not the agency’s package.
- Ask every agency the same ten questions and compare the answers.
- Avoid guaranteed rankings and link packages sold by quantity.
- Keep Search Console, Analytics and your Google Business Profile in your own name.
Choosing an SEO agency in Bangladesh is harder than it should be. There are hundreds of companies offering “SEO service”, many with near-identical promises: page one, more traffic, guaranteed results. Some will genuinely grow your business. Others will spend six months building links that Google ignores, or worse, penalises.
I have worked in search for 25 years, 17 of them in New York and since 2018 in Dhaka. This guide is the checklist I would use if I were hiring an agency myself. It works whether you run a local service business, an online store or a company selling internationally.
Start with your own goal, not the agency
Before you speak to anyone, write down what success looks like in one sentence. “More enquiries for corporate catering in Dhaka” is a goal. “Rank higher on Google” is not, because it does not tell you which searches matter or how you will measure the result.
A clear goal helps you judge every agency the same way. A good agency will ask about it in the first call. If the first thing you hear is a package name, be careful.
- Who are your customers and what do they type into Google before they buy?
- Which pages on your website should bring those customers in?
- What counts as a result: calls, form enquiries, orders or revenue?
Ten questions to ask every SEO agency
Ask each company the same questions and compare the answers side by side. The quality of the answers tells you more than any sales deck.
1. What will you do in the first 90 days?
You want a concrete plan: a technical audit, a keyword map that assigns searches to pages, the content they will write or improve, and how they will earn links. Vague answers such as “on-page and off-page optimisation” usually mean there is no plan.
2. Who will actually work on my account?
Many agencies sell with a senior person and deliver with a junior team. Ask to meet the person who will plan your strategy and ask how many other accounts they manage.
3. How do you build links?
This is the most important question. Safe answers include editorial outreach, digital PR, partnerships and content that others want to cite. Warning signs include private blog networks, bulk directory submissions, “500 backlinks per month” and any link package sold by quantity.
4. Can you show results for a business like mine?
Ask for case studies with real numbers: traffic, rankings and leads before and after. Screenshots from Google Search Console or Analytics are better than a list of logos.
5. How will you report progress?
A good report shows rankings for your target keywords, clicks and impressions from Search Console, organic leads or sales from Google Analytics 4, and the work completed that month. If the report only shows a “domain authority” score or a long list of backlinks, it is measuring activity, not results.
6. Do you guarantee a number one ranking?
The right answer is no. Google controls the results, and no honest SEO company can promise a position. An agency can guarantee its process, its transparency and the work it delivers.
7. What do you need from my team?
SEO works best as a partnership. The agency will need access to your website, Search Console and Analytics, and often input from your team on products, services and customer questions. An agency that needs nothing from you is probably not doing much.
8. Who owns the work if we stop?
Content, reports and website changes should belong to you. Make sure your accounts, such as Search Console, Analytics and your Google Business Profile, are in your name, with the agency added as a user.
9. How do you handle technical SEO?
Many rankings are lost to problems nobody sees: slow pages, broken redirects, duplicate URLs or pages blocked from Google. Ask whether the agency has developers who can fix these issues, or whether they only send a list of recommendations.
10. How is the contract structured?
Long lock-in contracts with no exit clause are a risk. SEO takes months, so a commitment of a few months is reasonable, but you should be able to leave if the agency does not deliver what it promised.
Red flags to watch for
- Guaranteed rankings or “page one in 30 days”.
- Link packages sold by quantity, such as hundreds of backlinks per month.
- No access to your data. The agency keeps your Search Console or Analytics in their own account.
- Secret methods they cannot explain in plain language.
- Keyword lists with no business value, such as ranking for terms nobody searches or terms unrelated to what you sell.
- Reports without leads or sales. Traffic alone is not the goal.
Local agency or international agency?
An SEO company based in Bangladesh understands how local customers search, including searches that mix Bangla and English, and it can meet your team in person. An international agency may have more experience in competitive markets abroad.
The best option often combines both: a team in Dhaka with international experience. What matters most is not the location but whether the agency has done the same kind of work before, for a market like yours.
How long should SEO take?
Most websites see early movement in two to three months and stronger results in four to six months. New websites and very competitive searches take longer. Technical fixes can show results within weeks, because Google can suddenly crawl and index pages it was missing.
Be wary of any agency that promises fast results without first looking at your site and your competitors. A realistic timeline is a sign of an honest agency.
A simple scorecard
After your calls, score each agency from one to five on these points. The highest total is usually the right choice, even if it is not the cheapest proposal.
| Criteria | What a strong agency shows |
|---|---|
| Plan | A clear 90-day roadmap tied to your goal |
| People | Senior strategy, named team members |
| Links | Editorial and PR links, no bulk packages |
| Proof | Case studies with real before-and-after data |
| Reporting | Rankings, clicks, leads and work completed |
| Ownership | Your accounts, your content, fair exit terms |
Final thoughts
The right SEO agency will ask more questions than it answers in the first call, explain its methods in plain language and measure success in leads and revenue, not vanity metrics. Take your time, compare answers and choose the team you trust to be honest with you when results are slow.
